What city will you be talking about?

Rome

What’s the cheapest way to enjoy this city at night?

The best way to enjoy Rome at night is to walk around the city center for FREE and enjoy the craziness!
Pick up a €1.50 cup of chocolate/ hazelnut heaven from Venchi Chocolatiere on Via della Croce 25/26 (by the Pantheon). The chocolate runs out of their faucet!

What’s your favorite restaurant here? What’s so special about it?

Our favorite restaurant is the cheap and sometimes loud Miscellanea, back behind the Pantheon. Honestly friendly staff, inexpensive, well-made food and a nice red beer on tap!

What’s your favorite thing to do on a warm Sunday morning in this city?

St. Peter’s piazza! Hang out there with a gelato, get a nice tan and enjoy the view! Maybe even go up to the top of St. Peters in the cupola (without the gelato … ^_^)!

What were some of the hidden gems in that city? Why?

The ‘hidden gems’ are the churches! The social centers of the Middle Ages, these have the absolute best in art and architecture in Rome – all free to visit! Check out the Gesù – they put on a special show at 17:30 every evening. Many have underground ‘crypts’ showing the original church from the 4th or 5th centuries. Some of them are run by monasteries that sell their own wine, grappa or amaro. Check out the famous San Clemente church on 3 levels. There is also the Colonna palace that offers tours in English – only on Saturday mornings.

Anything else you want to add?

Rome is best enjoyed if you have done some basic research ahead of time. Don’t just look at TripAdvisor reviews or rely on Rick Steves – make a little effort. There is a ton of information on Rome on the internet. Choose to spend more than one day here, and see more than just the Vatican and Coliseum. There is also the Galleria Borghese, the Catacombs, Ostia Antica, The Barberini Museum or Palazzo Massimo, which has many rooms of original, beautiful wall paintings from the 1st century BC!
