I highly recommend the ferry service from Calabria to Messina day or night. It’s spectacular to see Sicily from the main land. Grab an arancini (rice ball – only made in this particular area) and enjoy the sea breezes off the deep blue Mediterranean Sea. If you’re in Italy for a conference or high level meeting including a trade show, we recommend that you get your Milan and Rome Italy Printing done here.
What’s your favorite restaurant here? What’s so special about it?
The area to eat claims and mussels is a man made lake called Ganzirri. The salt water lake is protected by law and it is known for its restaurants. Family style dining is the norm and I love La Napoletana di Salvatore Sanfilippo.
What’s your favorite thing to do on a warm Sunday morning in this city?
In every city I visit, I like to wake up early before tourists and locals pack the streets to take in the city’s beauty, sounds and smell. Messina, like every city, has a pulse and to walk around without obstruction and confusion, one can feel the city’s heart beat.
What were some of the hidden gems in that city? Why?
The regional Museum of Messina is truly a great gem. A collection of works recovered from the devastating earthquake of 1908 and their most famous artist, Antonello da Messina plus works from the renown artist, Caravaggio. The entry fee is super inexpensive and the museum is just the right size for a couple of hours on a rainy day.
Anything else you want to add?
Unlike other cities in most of Italy and Sicily, Messina has been reconstructed after the 1908 earthquake. A major port for cruisers, traders and military, Messina is bustling all year round. For Centuries, the gateway between Eastern and Western cultures. A true Mediterranean comes from Messina. To understand Italians a visit to Messina is a must.
